Speakers in a Pillow for Sound Sleepers
October 30, 2008 by Speakers Fan
We have talked about everything speakers in our many numerous entries that have spanned just about all realms. From big to small, pricey to cheap, we have gone over plenty of nifty audio gadgets in our day. But this time we are a little agape in the mouth over what we have found for sale. A pillow that offers speakers imbedded within the soft and plush, cotton confines, for sound sleepers who need to get their music in at night. And just when we thought that it would be nearly impossible for a company to invent some sort doodad that we had never even imagined, there it is right in front our heads; no pun intended.
The Sound Pillow
A pillow that has two, smaller sized speakers encased within its softness. The pillow is your standard fare of average priced pillows and is really nothing special at all. Features a soft brushed cover and a hypoallergenic polyester fiber fill that you can encase with a pillow cover for extra flare. There are two small, ultra thin 2” speakers inside of the pillow that offer a few watts of booming, sometimes clear sound. An auxiliary input device allows for the easy hooking up of your CD player, portable MP3 player or TV. The pillow is 20” x 26” and the speakers can be removed so you can wash the pillow when it needs to be. Basically plug in what you want and set the volume and get ‘sleep therapy.’ Priced online for about: $45.00 plus the costs of shipping at very select merchants.
The Bottom Line
Okay, we had a hard time really buying into this $50 dollar pillow with a set of crumby speakers inside of it. Seriously, what ever happened to watching TV at night, or turning on the stereo system? Is there really a need for a pillow that has speakers inside of it so you can hear low grade sound with low grade clarity while you fall asleep? We found this pillow to be both silly and overpriced. Most people already own a TV, or a DVD player or a CD player or stereo system. So why pay another fifty bucks for a ‘Sleep Therapy’ pillow that does nothing more than play lower audible, lower clarity sounds for you, and closer to your ears? Exactly. Back to the drawing board sleep pillow guys, perhaps next time you will release a headboard with an FM tuner in it.
