6 Speakers That Will Break Your Bank
September 11, 2008 by Speakers Fan
In today’s world of really cool gizmos, it is expected that some of these stuff would cost an arm and a leg. Some of them, however, cost more than your car. Scratch that, some of them actually cost more than your car and your house combined. This is especially true of the speakers listed below, whose price tags, as indicated on HigherFi, border on the insane and can definitely break your bank.
1. Tidal T-1
Price: $322,000
The T-1 is Tidal’s top product, which boasts of a bass so deep “that it makes any description of the bass quality obsolete”. At least that what its website says about it. But at more than three hundred grand, we’re inclined to believe that.
2. Adam Audio OSS
Price: $325,000
Slightly more expensive than the speaker above, Adam Audio’s Olympus Sound System consists of eight columns, twelve built-in amplifiers, 60individual drivers and a DSP “brain”.
3. Acapella Audio Arts Sphaeron Excalibur
Price: $325,000
These speakers may seem like horns, but the sound quality is definitely a whole lot better. Its two pillars, with each featuring four huge 15-inch woofers, fits just right in a 40sq.m. room. And look ma, no distortion, as it can handle 1000 watts power at 10 ms.
4. CAT MBX
Price: $560,000
A pair of these really tall speakers costs more than a Ferrari.
5. Wisdom Audio Infinite Grande
Price: US$700,000
If you’re thinking about buying this one, you gotta have room. Lots of it. Because the Infinite Grande is, well, grande. Its mounded three section planar-magnetic arrays alone are already more than 13 feet tall. Then there are its over eight feet tall low frequency assemblies. And just like its price, the system’s pretty heavy too, as its total weight nears two tons.
6. Kharma Grand Enigma
Price: $1 million
Only one set of this ultra-expensive speaker system was made, so don’t bother saving up in hopes of buying one because you won’t find the Kharma Grand Enigma in stores.
